Abstract

The article deals with the advent of the formation of public opinion in the Czech lands in the end of 18th century. Specific attention focuses on the reflection of the French Revolution and its effects on the Czech environment, especially on minds of serfs. The article deals with unofficially disseminated information described by sheriffs in their reports, censorship of the press, surveys of the mood of the population and contemporary legends spread among the people. In this context, the paper shows that the given historical period gave birth to the modern public opinion in the Czech lands.
