Abstract

The article intends to analyse the spiritual journey of Catherine of Genoa, divided into the traditional three ways, the purgative, the illuminative and the unitive, related to the personal history of the Genoese Saint and based upon the so-called Opus Catharinianum, namely the works attributed to her, including the Book of her life, the Treatise on Purgatory and the Spiritual Dialogue. The method adopted is both deductive, that is to say that it is based upon thoughts and concepts derived from the principles of Revelation, and inductive, that is to say stemming from the personal and ecclesial spiritual experience of Catherine of Genoa, taken from the sources deriving from the Opus Catharinianum, in particular from the Book of her life and from the Spiritual Dialogue, as well as from some works by scholars, who have studied it.
