Abstract

Since the detection of the gravitational waves by LIGO, scientific and philosophical debates were stimulated. Among these was the discussion on the nature of space: Emphasizing that space cannot exist in absence of matter, Mario Bunge was on the ‘relationalist’ camp. Gustavo Romero in his rebuttal on the other hand, advanced a substantivalist position: space is a substance, a material entity that persists in the absence of other material things. In this paper I will summarize the exchange and try to propose a relationalist alternative for the Bungean position, which will be dubbed Neo-Bungean Structuralism.
