  1. Strong magnetization by antiphase-boundary tubes in a cyclically deformed Fe-35 at.% Al alloy.K. Yamamoto, S. Miyazaki, S. Kumai & A. Sato - 2003 - Philosophical Magazine 83 (12):1431-1449.
Strong magnetization was observed in a cyclically deformed Fe-35 at.% Al alloy by introduction of a high density of antiphase-boundary tubes. In order to introduce a large plastic deformation without changing the specimen dimension, compressive deformation was given repeatedly along mutually orthogonal stress axes under a constraint imposed across the stress axes. Clear evidence was obtained in attributing the major origin of the large magnetization to the production of a high density of APB tubes. The contribution of the APB tubes (...)

  • The paramagnetic-to-ferromagnetic transition in B2-structured Fe-Al single crystals: experiments and calculations.D. Wu, P. Munroe & I. Baker - 2003 - Philosophical Magazine 83 (3):295-313.
It is well established that single crystals of B2-structured Fe-Al change from paramagnetic to ferromagnetic upon plastic deformation. This strain-induced ferromagnetism arises mostly from Fe atoms which have three or more like nearest neighbours in antiphase-boundary tubes. Such Fe atoms carry magnetic moments according to their local environment. In this study, the saturation magnetizations, M S , of cold-rolled Fe-34 at.% Al, Fe-40 at.% Al and Fe-43 at.% Al single crystals were measured in a vibrating-sample magnetometer from 77 K to (...)

  • Kear-Wilsdorf locks and the generation of antiphase-boundary tubes in L1 2 alloys.Yu-Lung Chiu & Patrick Veyssière - 2003 - Philosophical Magazine 83 (2):179-202.
The two available mechanisms for antiphase-boundary tube formation under single-slip conditions are compared. Some of the assumptions involved such as the driving force for limited fast climb at jogs and the conditions for the transformation of Kear-Wilsdorf locks into dipoles are re-examined. Various implications of the two mechanisms are analysed and they are also compared with experimental observations in L1 2 alloys. It is shown that the trailing of APB tubes by climb-relaxed jogs offers explanations of current microstructural features that (...)
