Beauty and Measure

Abstract

The essence of beauty should not be grasped solely in terms of abstract, levelling, moderating and beautifying unity, which is the usual claim of postmodern aesthetics. In order to properly develop our principal idea, which relates the topic of beauty with that of measure, we would have to properly and thoroughly discuss the ontological ground of the modern philosophy of beauty as a whole, especially its origin in Neo-Platonism and Plato himself, which would lead us far beyond the scope of our research. We shall thus confine ourselves to outlining the horizon with present-day condition as its starting point so as to take at least a few steps forward in discussing such a broadly understood issue
