Abstract

Islam, as a religious ideology, has its media channel and its media center that contain a communication model. The media channel is prayer and the media center is the mosque. The primary purpose of this study is to generate a five-dimensional communication model of the Islamic prayer process as a communication analysis. The study describes the characteristics of the communication process, the mosque as a communication environment, and how the process relates to the environment. ;The objective of this study is to analyze, from a communication perspective, the Islamic prayer process or salah and the activities of the mosque so as to enhance the cross-cultural understanding of Islam and its institutions in simple comprehensive clarification where no additional background is required. Additionally, this research is an exercise of how a nation could generate its theories and models from its culture for the sake of national development and planning. The historical and symbolic analysis of salah as a five-dimensional communication phenomenon generated from the philosophies and policies of the 5-D resulted in a clear explanation of the symbolic nonverbal significance of the different elements of salah and how they are manifested in the Islamic society and in the behaviors of individual Moslems. Moreover, the 5-D is a communication model that is not limited to specific people or area or specialization; it is a way of life in a simple five-dimensional view
