From metaphysics to religion: The comparison between Alberto Caracciolo and Benedetto Croce
Abstract
All the literature produced by Caracciolo on Croce’s philosophy is stimulated by a metaphysical interest which is wholly revealed in the 1983 essay L’interrogazione jobica nel pensiero di Benedetto Croce. Croce’s underlying approach is that of a religion of immanence mainly inspired by a faith in the world which aims at making the most of praxis, understood as the specific character of man. Religion, however, necessarily leads to confronting the problem of evil, which disengages religion from any kind of identification with ethicality or the possibility of regarding it, as Croce would say, a background conception for praxis
