Exploratory diagrams

Abstract

In his book Diagrams, Arthur Lockwood describes two types of diagram: informational diagrams and explanatory diagrams. I would like to propose a further type of diagram which I refer to as an exploratory diagram, related to methods of thinking through drawing and writing. I will demonstrate exploratory diagrams thought examples from my own art practice, focussing in particular on the use of an allegorical method of reading and representation.
