The Application of Films in Teaching Philosophy

Abstract

Young students who in general terms, most of them philosophical questions are abstract, distant and alienated. How to make it in the philosophy of the program to increase interest in learning, and thus participate in the discussion and independent thinking, in addition to teachers, teaching methods, the daily experience of students to have close and caused interest in aid, even to make such a course to improve teaching and learning . Film for today's students, it is easy to obtain a daily, and is ready to contact the media, whether through television or cinema; it is a similar life experiences with students, providing the scene to observe the subject, thinking and induced discussion, lead students to a great interest in teaching materials. This will be the nature and significance of the film discussion Zhushou, further explore the philosophy of teaching, the feasibility of the application and advantages and disadvantages of the film, plus a one-unit course Introduction to the theory of knowledge as an example, as courses in theory and practical application of teaching review the issue. For most young students, philosophy is abstract and distant. It is not easy to promote and further their discussion and critical thinking in the classroom. The application of something that is close to students' daily experience and is able to induce their interest can really help to improve this kind of situation, and advance teaching and learning effect. Films, or movies, are very modem popular media with easy accessibility for students. By organizing each course around a theme, the teacher can apply film clips to illuminate and / or critique philosophical positions, and by discussing the film, students will develop analytical and interpretive skills important for rigorous philosophical discipline as well as for other spheres of learning. The aim of this thesis is to explain the possibility and the ways of designing and teaching a course by using feature films to examine philosophical theses. In this thesis, I will try to elaborate justifications of using contemporary films in the philosophy classroom, with a study on the nature of the film, a form of art and an important media in popular culture at modern time, as a beginning, and then on perspectives of philosophy on films. What follows will be the discussion of how films can be applied in courses of philosophy, and the presentation of some approaches and hints for integrating film into class lectures
