Abstract

The personal, social, and scientific experiences of each moment of time, each era, blend together to create myths that provide personal meanings and understandings of life. As the personal, social, and scientific context changes, the accompanying myths also change. One such change is evident in contemporary ideas and images of quantum science. This shift of scientific understanding alters the Cartesian-Newtonian worldview and provides the basis for this inquiry, which asks "what personal, spiritual myth will creatively emerge from immersion in non-mathematical theories and philosophical interpretations of quantum physics as they are manifesting in contemporary culture?" ;While texts that present concepts and images of non-mathematical quantum physics provide the basic data for this inquiry, the philosophical underpinnings of ontology, Idealism and Realism, support and extend that data. The intuitive-heuristic methodology of the inquiry allows for somatic experience and logical exploration of the data. The blended methodology is in alignment with the transpersonal worldview of the single researcher of this study, and the methodology and data provide the matrix from which the findings emerge. ;The findings, a new personal, spiritual myth, is not a neat, concise story in the classical Newtonian cause and effect sense, but rather is the understanding that a myth arising from quantum ideas and images is implicit in the process of asking the question. The myth resulting from this study includes and transcends, is both process and product, is created even as it emerges, is alive and ever changing. The findings of this inquiry opened the researcher to the realization that there are so many possibilities inherent in the quantum images and ideas of complementarity, non-locality, and uncertainty that no one story is sufficient. This realization generated a personally transformative experience, which is the essence of myth
