Abstract

A Diego de Avendaño, jesuita autor del Thesaurus Indicus, se le ha catalogado normalmente como el gran defensor de los esclavos negros en las colonias españolas de América, e incluso como el primer promotor de la abolición. A la vista del Thesaurus Indicus, el presente trabajo estudia hasta qué punto pueden ser verdad tales apreciaciones.Palabras llave: Diego de Avendaño; Thesaurus Indicus; Esclavos negros.Diego de Avendaño, a Jesuit and author of Thesaurus Indicus, has normally been catalogued as a great defender of black slaves in the Spanish colonies of America and even as the first abolitionist.
