Abstract
The article analyzes the autobiographical memories of a writer, a critic, an essayist, a journalist, and a memoirist Avseenko Vasiliy «The school years. Fragments from the memoirs. 1852–1863» in which he pays the homage to the founders of historical education and science at St. Volodymyr University professors V.Y. Shul’gin, P.V. Pavlov, A.I. Stavrovskiy, who conceived and developed the tradition of the School of Historians of St. Volodymyr University and who occupied the places of honor among the teachers and scientists of Ukraine in the middle and the second half of the XIX century. It is investigated how V. H. Avseenko in his memories expressively reconstructs the portraits of World History Department Professors V. Y. Shul’gin and A. I. Stavrovskiy, and Russian History Department Professor P. V. Pavlov and how he recalls the special features that determined the university life during his study in 1859–1863 years. It is established how V. H. Avseenko reveals the importance of the influence of the representatives of the School of Historians St. Volodymyr University on the students, which allows to understand deeper the personalities of historians who personified and tirelessly created their time.
