Abstract

The article is devoted to Ukrainian- Russian relations in the context of geopolitical confrontation. Located in the geographical center of Europe, Ukraine has an important geopolitical and geostrategic position in pan-European processes, as well as in the processes that relate to the security sphere. It was determined that the Russian aggression against our country manifests itself in the form of direct and intermediary use of armed force against the sovereignty and maintains the integrity of territorial. It is proved that given the state of the negotiation process, its results and the decisions not to promote the settlement of the conflict, but on the contrary – result in further complication of the situation. Argued the thesis that the initiator of the introduction of sanctions to the international isolation of Russia was the US government, under the pressure of which, at the risk of incurring an economic loss to the sanctions have joined countries of the European Union. On the one hand, the sanctions policy towards Russia slowed down the development of the European Union. On the other hand, the continuation of sanctions against Russia due to the close strategic cooperation between the EU-countries and the USA. It is proved that an equally important factor in the context of the development of Ukrainian-Russian relations will be the results of the presidential elections in the United States of America in 2016. The results of elections will determine the contours of the new geopolitical confrontation between Russia and the USA, and what place Ukraine will takes in it: either to remain a bargaining chip in Russia’s geopolitical plans, or will become a real strategic partner of the USA. The second option is more acceptable, because under these conditions, we will have more chances of further settlement of the Ukrainian-Russian conflict contradictions and stabilization of the domestic situation.
