Abstract

This collection of essays has been drawn together to mark the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Department of Adult Education at the University of Nottingham and to commemorate the work of Professors Robert Peers, Allan Thornton, Harold Wiltshire and Michael Stephens. The specially commissioned essays together serve as a tribute to the contribution they made, through their written work and as heads of the Department, to the promotionand latterly defence - of the liberal tradition.
