The Path to Upgrading of Chinese OEM Firms

Abstract

Since reform and opening, processing and trade in promoting the sustainable development of China's rapid economic growth and employment levels have made ​​important contributions. However, with the world and China's changing economic environment, China's current OEM-based labor-intensive processing trade woeful. China OEM manufacturers in order to survive and be sure to make the upgrading of business development, and gradually realize from OEM to ODM vendors to the OBM manufacturers change vendors. This transformation and upgrading, not only a theoretical possibility, but also the analysis of the foundry business in the face of the current upgrade of the main constraints on the basis of the OEM manufacturers to select a different upgrade strategies. Since the Economic Reform and Open to the Outside, the development of processed product industry has made a great contribution for the economic growth in China. But as the changes in the market both in our country and in the world, the perspectives of the labor- intensive OEM industrial firms seems dim. It is necessary for the survival and development of those OEM firms to be upgraded, ie to transform from OEM to ODM and to OBM firms. The transformation or upgrading is possible theoretically. We need to choose some practical tactics of the upgrading, based upon the analysis of the main barriers faced by those firms
