Das Denken des Übens. Die Exerzitien des Ignatius von Loyola als Artikulationsform des Denkens
Abstract
In this contribution we discuss the question whether the spiritual model which can be found in the Exercices by Ignatius of Loyola is also a form of philosophical reflection. What does it mean to understand the philosophical presuppositions of this spiritual practice, which was so influential in the Modern Era? It will be shown that the Exercices offer a method for the exploring and articulation of the original desire which marks every individual life. The discretion of the spirits and the ›mise en scene‹ are the central categories Ignatius presents in his text in order to reach this goal. As such the Exercices offers a space for a philosophical reflection on human desire.
