Cut-elimination in second order logic

Abstract

As far as I know, the existing proofs of the cut-elimination or normal form theorem in second order logic use means which cannot be formalized in first order arithmetic, and in that sense the above proofs are not elementary . The proof of the normal form theorem for second order logic which I found is elementary.
