An Investigation of Moral Basis of Market Society from the Perspective of Social Morals

Abstract

At the individual level, the "selfish" and "moral" is the human nature of the two virtues, are not contradictory; in the type of structure the social level, in order to maintain order in the expansion of cooperation required to build and market society to adapt to the social moral foundation. China's traditional lack of a social and moral society in this dimension, Hume in a specific historical period's social and moral discourse for the construction of Chinese contemporary theory of market economy with special reference. Universal code of ethics is the premise of economics, economics of their own value judgments guidelines also reject unethical economic behavior. "A market economy can be unscrupulous," the proposition is not established. On the perspective of individual, "Selfish" and "Moral" are both characteristics within human nature; On another perspective of society, in order to maintain the extending of cooperative order, it is important to construct the moral baserof the society which should be accordant with the market. However, Chinese traditional society is absences of the social moral. The theory of "social moral" which was raised by David Hume on particular moment plays an extremely important role in our current development of market economy. Universal moral rule is the precondition of economics theory. Furthermore, the valuation rule of economy theory also rejects the immoral economy behavior. So the proposition "market economy is immoral" cannot be tenable
