Abstract

An Essay ConcerningHuman Understanding, I Intend to illustrate how we can find in this work of Locke’s some elements that were developed later in Twentieth Century Analytical Philosophy. I discuss this influence by means of Locke’s analysis of the role of language in the problem of knowledge, which leads him to criticize metaphysics, to conceive the notion of a metalanguage, to analyze the different functions of language, and to postulate the notion of sense and lack of sense.I argue for the view that we can find thesenotions in Locke’s views.
