Codification and consolidation in europe as means to untie red tape

Abstract

Codification and consolidation are being used as means to simplify EU legislation and thereby reduce the volume. The techniques are at the very heart of the EU's simplification programmes. This contribution compares and analyses the way in which consolidation and codification of legislation is used in different EU member states. Advantages and disadvantages of different systems are discussed in search of best practices. Finally the results of the comparative research are confronted with the EU approach
