Abstract

Sacramental intuition as a model for intuition of the unattainable in Jean-Yves Lacoste’s phenomenology of liturgyJean-Yves Lacoste is a contemporary French thinker, famous for carrying out his re-flection on the frontier between philosophy and theology. Sacramental intuition is a typical example of what he calls “theological thinking.” Intuition of sacramental presence of God becomes a model for intuition of His yet unattainable presence in the world. Intuition of that sort is a mode of cognition proper to the aforesaid being on the frontier of phi-losophy and theology, which is the line between being-in-the-world and being-towards-God. Examination of this intuition leads to many interesting questions. Is the difference between the presence and the absence the same as the one between the attainable and the unattainable? What is the difference between what is not yet present, what is already not present and what is not present? Is presence and absence rather a problem of place or time?
