  • La esclavitud natural. Una revisión de las tesis de Aristóteles.Margarita Mauri - 2016 - Ideas Y Valores 65 (162):161-187.

  • Natural Slavery A Review of Aristotle's Thesis.Margarita Mauri - 2016 - Ideas Y Valores 65 (162):161-187.
In face of the natural slavery defended by Aristotle, some commentators try to protect the internal coherence of his discourse, while others deny it. Trying not to give a value judgment, the article (...)

  • La conception aristotélicienne de la servilité dans l’ Éthique_ et la _Politique.Louise Rodrigue - 2020 - Dialogue 59 (1):51-68.
ABSTRACTGround breaking in many ways, Richard Bodéüs’ influential book, Le philosophe et la cité, published in 1982, offers a reinterpretation of the complex notion of phrónēsis. In the same line of inquiry, this article analyzes one of the more modest forms of phrónēsis, namely economy, more specifically the part of economy that involves the relationship with unfree people. The Aristotelian views on the master-slave relationship are put into perspective in light of Bodéüs’ observations on command. This approach leads to pointing (...)

In this paper it is argued that, inPolitics I, Aristotle uses the method of his biological investigations and nine principles regarding causation and the working of nature known from his physics, psychology, and biology to demonstrate that the barbarians are natural slaves. His procedure is in line with his general way of thinking.

  • Aristotle's Ethics and the Crafts: A Critique.Thomas Peter Stephen Angier - unknown
This dissertation is a study of the relation between Aristotle’s ethics and the crafts (or technai). My thesis is that Aristotle’s argument is at key points shaped by models proper to the crafts, this shaping being deeper than is generally acknowledged, and philosophically more problematic. Despite this, I conclude that the arguments I examine can, if revised, be upheld. The plan of the dissertation is as follows – Preface: The relation of my study to the extant secondary literature; Introduction: The (...)
