Abstract

L’article vise à rendre compte de l’évolution muséographique qui conduit du classique musée d’objets, donnant à voir, à l’exposition qui veut faire comprendre, puis à l’exposition de discours, qui entend théoriser à partir des objets, puis avec ceux-ci. Étape ultérieure, l’exposition peut aller jusqu’à s’autonomiser et parler par elle-même au travers de formes de scénographie signifiante développant des métadiscours. La logique hypertextuelle que l’on voit se déployer récemment se situe à différentes échelles, entremêlant et se jouant des niveaux de discours. L’exposition devient plus complexe, mais aussi plus passionnante par les dispositifs qu’elle met en œuvre et les postures auxquelles elle convie les visiteurs.This article charts the changing course of museum design, from classic displays of objects to be looked at and exhibitions that seek to bring understanding, through to discursive exhibitions that offer theories – about the objects displayed and then with those objects. Taking these developments still further, exhibitions can even take on a life and expression of their own, through the meta-discourses that develop in the different and significant forms of exhibition design. The recently deployed hypertext approach appears at different levels, intermingling and playing on different levels of discourse. Exhibitions are becoming more complex, but also more fascinating thanks to the variety of design methods used and the different stances that visitors are brought to adopt
