Abstract

This account should be of great help in dispelling some of the mystery that surrounds the subject for the uninitiated. The author, concentrating on Sartre and Heidegger, locates modern existentialism in the history of philosophy; outlines typical existentialist positions on such issues as the human condition, freedom, authenticity, and death; and makes critical comments on these positions from Anglo-American viewpoints, especially pragmatism.--J.
