Abstract

This article reviews the situation of the Philosophical Theory of Knowledge in the second half of the XXth century and Polo’s contribution to it. It considers the significance of gnoseological realism has increased in postmodern times, after the excess of modern critical immanentism. Two points are considered relevant in Polo’s theory of knowledge: a) his proposal of a realist conception of cognitive intentionality as a respectivity of the object to objective reality and not as a respectivity of the cognitive act to the object , and b) his contribution to the historical sueration of modern immanent criticism, through the identification and revision of its sources in the late medieval semantic representationism of Ockham or the speculative representationism of Duns Scotus
