Abstract

Analisa-se aqui a tópica do jardim-paraíso que não é própria da Bíblia, mas de um amálgama das tradições. As Américas são para o colonizador ibérico entre o século XVI e XVIII uma verdadeira matricialidade do paraíso. Os escritos dos cronistas lusitanos, através do milagre da analogia, dão-nos a sensação do Paraíso, fazendo comunicar no mesmo espaço o Eldorado, o Nilo, o São Francisco e o horto de delícias. A descoberta da América foi para muitos a descoberta do Paraíso perdido. A questão hoje não é “onde está o Paraíso?”, mas sim: “para onde vai o mundo?” We analyse here the theme of paradise which is not the one you can find in the Bible, but the one which has it’s origin in the diffusion of tradition. America is for the Iberian colonizer from the XV to the XVIII century the true matrix of paradise. The texts of the Portuguese chroniclers, give us the idea of Paradise through the miracle of analogy. This is done by means of concentrating in the same place Eldorado, Nile, S. Francisco and the hortus deliciarum. The discovery of America was for many the discovery of the lost paradise. The question we ask today is not: where is Paradise, but where does the world go to?
