Abstract

Resumo Francisco Canals Vidal é o principal expoente da Escola Tomista de Barcelona. Canals interpreta a teoria tomista do conhecimento à luz da afirmação, feita a partir de Cayetano, segundo a qual “entender é um certo ser”. Com Tomás de Aquino, Canals distingue um duplex esse, material e imaterial. O ser imaterial é o ser do cognoscente enquanto cognoscente. Por meio do “ser cognitivo”, o conhecedor, identificado com o conhecido, supera a limitação da sua finitude, tornando-se infinito de um certo modo. By means of the “cognitive being”, the knower, identified with the known, overcomes the limitation of his finitude, becoming infinite in a certain mode. While, from a physical point of view, human knowledge is accidental and inherent in a subject, from a metaphysical point of view “is a certain being”.
