Flora Tristan was a social reformer and activist, one of the founders of modern feminism, and, anticipating the work of Marx and Engels, author of several works about socialism, the best-known of which are Peregrinations of a Pariah (1838), Promenades in London (1840), and The Workers' Union (1843). Sandra Dijkstra's new biography charts the development of Tristan's ideas in the context of her life and times.
