Abstract
The article seeks to express basic concerns on the debate regarding the teaching of values in ethical- and religious instruction. First, the question is pursued why the discussion regarding the imparting of values constitutes a problem which is so diffi cult to solve. Preparatory considerations from the philosophy of religion are required to establish whether the same can be understood under «values» in religion and philosophy. In a subsequent step, the theme of the teaching of values is refl ected upon in. Finally, these considerations are tied into the framework of a philosophy of education
