Abstract

In the history of thought the dualist approach others the body and glorifies the spirit. The idea of Enlightenment consolidates this glorifying. The body which attempts becoming visible against the hegemony of the mind achieves visibility only after the Cartesian structure of the idea of Enlightenment was criticized. The body owes a great deal concerning its eluding the spirit-body differentiation in the philosophical context, to the phenomenological approach and the post-structuralist thinkers. This paper aims at questioning the spirit-body antinomy, the reasons for the increasing interest in the body and the sociological aspect of the body.
