Abstract

An exploration on the Argentine Chaco Toba or gom is proposed. In so doing, three items are stressed, the historical processes that shaped the nation-state vis-a-vis its indigenous population, the emergence of Franciscan missions in Formosa province, and a reflexive account of the anthropological task itself. ;In this regard, ontology is conceived of as historically grounded in particular times and spaces. Therefore, the spatial dimension is a central axis upon which a geopolitics of knowledge is carried out. ;Research was undertaken among the takshek Toba of Formosa province, and in urban Buenos Aires. ;The theoretical framework is influenced by Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology, Victor Turner's anthropology of experience, and Rodolfo Kusch's philosophical anthropology
