Abstract

The article considers the impact of the crisis on the ideology of a united Europe. All challenges facing the Union cause more and more damage to the fundamentals of European integration and lead to a split in the ranks of the Europeans. The union is not able to respond quickly and effectively to make decisions in order to overcome the crisis that undermines the credibility of the EU as an international actor, and most importantly, sways faith of Europeans in the feasibility of the existence of supranational institutions. The article also analyzes the growth of nationalist sentiment in countries, as a reaction to the policy of Brussels detrimental to national economies and endangered the national security. Therefore, this stage in the history of the united Europe is turning point. The future of the Union depends on whether Europeans recognize the prevailing of strengthening of supranational institutions and the deepening of the integration process, or opt for upholding state sovereignty and, above all, national interests.
