Abstract

A critical study of the "shudder before God", the "shudder before death", and the "shudder before the other person", favoring Sartre. The author's position is largely derived from the nature-mysticism of D. H. Lawrence. His own unscrutinized assumptions are so thoroughly "aesthetic" that the religious passion of Kierkegaard, the ontological passion of Heidegger, and the ethical passion of Sartre appear in his book somewhat distorted. --L.
