Abstract
Hegel's philosophy is central to the very foundations of modern Western thought. His speculative system brought into confluence two movements—the Enlightenment and Romanticism—which have shaped modernity, and it gave rise to many streams of thought, including Marxism, Anglo-American Idealism, and various forms of historicism.
