Design Curricula Study & Hands-On Distributed Design Studio

Abstract

The following material constitutes an interim report by Joe Ballay on a summer project that I commissioned to begin to coordinate thinking on the design of design curricula for general or 'core' education. Included are an outline of the position paper to result from the project (on strategies for introducing design as a theme, skill set, and salient component of a liberal arts or core curriculum) and appendix material. Joe Ballay had approached me with a proposal to investigate and design software that would support hands-on design studio conditions on our distributed computer network.
