Filipino's love for the elderly is undeniable. However, despite the respect they have for the elderly, an increasing amount of elderly abandonment is rising in the Philippines. The drastic increase in statistics of abandonment will still grow over the years because aging is inevitable. The primary goal of this study is to dig deeper into the experiences, challenges, and coping mechanisms of abandoned senior citizens inside of a home for the aged to spread awareness about this certain topic. By the (...) use of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, the study come up with the following findings: (1) The abandoned senior citizens chose to be inside the facility because they don't want to be a burden in their original homes. (2) Faith and religious works affect their psychological well-being. (3) Physical appearance does not affect their self-esteem. (4) Social support boosts their psychological well-being as well. (5) One of the biggest reasons why abandoned senior citizens left their homes is being neglected to cause them to leave and stay in home for the aged (6) Lastly, people inside the facilities accepted the fact that death is drawing closer to them but they don't want to die yet. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the academe was introduced to online education, which is complicated. The sudden shift of traditional face-to-face classes to digital learning impacted every student's self-efficacy and motivation towards their studies. This study investigates the relationship between the self-efficacy and academic motivation of the 304 freshmen college students from private higher education institutions in the Philippines. Based on the data gathered, the participants' level of self-efficacy (x̄ = 3.27) and academic motivation (x̄ = 5.93) is high. Further, (...) the statistical analysis concluded a relationship between self-efficacy and academic motivation (r=.002, at 0.05 level) among the graduating college students. Delivery riders became frontline workers who assisted everyone in getting their daily supplies. They transported them to their destinations when the pandemic started, and everyone had to stay home to stop the COVID-19 virus from spreading. Thus, this study explores the experiences, challenges, and coping mechanisms of 15 Female Delivery Riders in Bulacan, Philippines. The study employed Heideggerian Phenomenology and Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Further, the following themes arise: (1) The Realist, (2) The Accommodated, (3) The Vulnerable, and (4) The (...) Determined. These themes highlighted the experiences and challenges faced by the participants. Moreover, it is highly suggested that female employees should be given preferential assistance given their physical capabilities and role in the family. Thus, local government units should provide an alternative source of income that will allow them to have quality time with their family, especially their children. (shrink)

With the rising poverty in the Philippines, Filipino farm workers in Agusan del Sur faced distinctive challenges in their homes and working environment. This study aimed to discuss Filipino farm workers’ lived experiences, challenges, and coping mechanisms. Filipino farm workers shared their experiences that tapped into their psychological aspects. Mainly, the problem was stress, worry, and frustration centered on poverty and educational attainment. Some farm workers were likely unaware of the main problem that prolonged their hardships. Still, most have managed (...) to fortify their mental health. This report indicates that most Filipino farm workers in Agusan del Sur have a healthy psychological well-being. Cycling is one of the typical recreational activities, transportation, and sport among elderly adults in the Philippines. Based on the study, cycling provides many benefits to physical health, promotes well-being, contributes to improved quality of life, and is a great way for elderly adults to prevent depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. As cycling becomes more prevalent during pandemics, the road has changed to include adding more bicycle lanes. Thus, the researchers explore the lived experiences of senior cyclists, specifically: (...) (1) to describe the experiences, (2) challenges, and (3) coping mechanisms. Correspondingly, the study used fifteen (15) participants in an Interpretative Phenomenology Analysis (IPA) procedure. The following findings are drawn from the study: (1) Most of the senior cyclists experienced life-threatening events while cycling, they experienced a high level of satisfaction and happiness, (2) Most senior cyclists are not bothered by the difficulties that others might view as a barrier to them continuing to pedal with passion. (3) Despite all the obstacles they may encounter, senior cyclists choose to get through those challenges by being understanding, patient, and calm. (shrink)

Police officers are vital to maintaining security and the continuity of national functions. Thus, Police officers are more exposed to different kinds of psychological concerns. However, a female in this kind of profession, based on various studies, experienced higher levels of stress because of other factors. Further, the primary goal of this study is to investigate the psychological well-being, lived experiences, challenges, and coping mechanisms of female police officers. Employing the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, the findings of this study were: (1) (...) Female police officers had conceptualized themselves as brave, flexible, and adaptive. And they cope with stress with positive thinking that results in healthy psychological well-being. (2) Female police officers showed dedication and engagement to serve the people. They even used their resources for the public and sacrificed most of their time in the office. (3) Female police officers' primary motivation to continue their careers is their families, and serving the public brings joy to them. (4) However, female police officers experience disrespect while working in the field, and they always have fear in their life as police officers. Moreover, they need more time to spend with their families. It is partly inspired by the German Begriffsgeschichte. Its editors, however, have also taken into account the contribution (...) of the famous school of Cambridge by adapting the influences of several methodological currents to the specific claims of their work, i. e. to the elaboration of a dictionary which, on the basis of a huge volume of sources, pretends to cartograph, in an alphabetical order, the principal ideological lines – the discoursive and conceptual ones – of the Spanish 19th century. The article ends with a discussion of certain difficulties and aspects which are treated controversally in the intellectual history. O artigo aborda teologicamente a problemática “fé-política” em sua unidade estrutural (respectividade constitutiva) e em sua autonomia relativa (especificidade, dinamismo, estrutura). Começa apresentando e confrontando alguns modos possíveis de seu tratamento (modo reducionista, modo dualista e modo estrutural) e assumindo o que nos parece o mais adequado e o mais conseqüente (modo estrutural). Em seguida, enfrenta-se com a problemática fé-política, esboçando, quase que a modo de teses, sua estrutura teológica fundamental: a fé tem uma dimensão política constitutiva sem se identificar (...) com ou se reduzir a ela; a política, em sua relativa autonomia, tem um caráter teologal radical ; tanto a dimensão política da fé quanto o caráter teologal da política carecem de mediações históricas – precisam ser mediatizados historicamente. E esse é, certamente, o aspecto mais complexo e mais polêmico da problemática. Aqui não faremos, senão, indicar algumas questões que nos parecem relevantes e decisivas nesse processo de mediação: objetividade da mediação, especificidade da missão da igreja, sujeitos eclesiais, caráter social da Igreja, o estritamente político da fé e a perspectiva dos pobres e oprimidos. It begins by presenting and examining three possible ways of approaching the above named “faith-politics” issue, there is to say, reductionist, dual and structural ones. For that purpose, this article takes the last approach, the structural one, as the more consistent of all of them. Faith-politics issue is then dealt by addressing its basic theological structure. In this way, faith has a constitutive political dimension, nor identifying with politics neither being reduced to any politics interpretation. In its relative autonomy, politics then has a radical theological character. This article also emphasizes that political dimension of faith as well as its theological character of policy needs to be historically mediated. And that is certainly the most complex and controversial aspect of faith-politics issue. In other words, this article wishes to indicate some clues that seem to be relevant and decisive in this process of mediation: objectivity of the above-mentioned mediation, specificity of the mission of the church, social character of the Church, political character of faith and the perspective of the poor and oppressed people. This article discusses the issue of Christianity in a pluralistic society on the basis of the book "If God Were a Human Rights Activist", by Boaventura de Sousa Santos. In this book the author confronts the challenges that the "movements that demand the presence of religion in the public sphere" place for human rights in the context of ”ecology of conceptions of human dignity." This article begins by presenting the problem of Christianity in a pluralistic society and indicating two fundamental (...) forms of dialogue and interaction between religious traditions and society as a whole. The text goes on to show, from the aforementioned book, how traditions and religious movements are a privileged place of affirmation and defense of human dignity and how theologies that sustain them constitute a 'defense grammar of human dignity. The article concludes by showing how the affirmation and defense of human dignity, understood and lived in the context of social struggles for justice, constitute the core of the Christian experience of God or, in any case, one of its fundamental features or marks. At the beginning of the text the author presents a discussion on the relationship between theology and the social sciences in Latin America in recent decades through its main representatives: Gustavo Gutierrez and Clodovis Boff, Juan Luis Segundo and Ignacio Ellacuria. The paper also presents a systematic outline of the fundamental theoretical framework of the relationship between theology and the social sciences, showing that this relationship binds to the knowledge of the reality in which faith is placed. In conclusion, the texts highlights that faith must be considered theologically on three levels: with the social dimension of the Kingdom of God, which is an issue of Christian Theology; with the social character of theology as a theory; with the ideological suspicion and with the process of liberation of theology. Como investigador, as directrizes de trabalho que Domingos Maurício prosseguia ligavam--se, em parcela significativa, àquelas que viriam a ser definidas e executadas pela própria Revista, daí resultando o interesse de uma análise em termos de recíproca aproximação, para efeitos deste estudo. A recuperação do prestígio intelectual dos (...) Inacianos, e a revisão crítica do processo que engendrara a lenda denegridora da Companhia de Jesus no nosso País; a valorização da Metafísica cristá e da Teologia de inspiração tomista; a demonstração da grande densidade filosófica do Curso Conimbricense, e da valia do labor especulativo de luminares do Pensamento moderno, como Pedro da Fonseca, Franciso Suárez e Luís de Molina; o mérito e projecção cultural da Universidade de Éevora e do Colégio das Artes de Coimbra, durante a administração jesuíta, tais eram as metas e os temas de um vasto programa que Domingos Maurício empreendera. RESUMEN Para Emmanuel Lévinas la teología cristiana ontologiza y, consiguientemente, intelectualiza a Dios y al prójimo, ajustándolos a la medida de las categorías cognitivas del sujeto que los recibe. Este artículo señala que pretender cristianizar y así ontologizar la propuesta filosófica levinasiana no solo la devalúa, sino que neutraliza y destruye la trascendencia del dios hebreo planteada en ella. En vista de lo anterior, se utilizará el método histórico-sistemático, que consiste en analizar toda la obra de Lévinas, así como algunos (...) de los textos más importantes de varios especialistas en el campo de la teología vinculada con este autor. ABSTRACT According to Emmanuel Lévinas, Christian theology ontologizes and, therefore, intellectualizes God and the other, adapting them to the cognitive categories of the receiving subject. The article argues that this attempt to Christianize and ontologize Lévinas's philosophical proposal not only devaluates it but also neutralizes and destroys the transcendence of the Hebrew God it proposes. In view of this, the paper analyzes the work of Lévinas, as well as some of the most important texts by various specialists in the field of theology related to Lévinas, using a historicalsystematic method. Este artículo examina el significado del desarrollo humano integral propugnado por Benedicto XVI en Caritas in veritate, destacando su continuidad con Populorum progressio y, en general, con el magisterio social precedente. Tras dar razón del vínculo existente entre la economía, la ética y la antropología, el autor trata de espigar las principales orientaciones ético-económicas que han sido propuestas en esa última encíclica social con vistas a un tal desarrollo, articulándolas a partir de dos concepciones antropológicas de honda raigambre en la (...) doctrina social de la Iglesia, a saber, la dignidad humana y el personalismo comunitario.Comenta, finalmente, la relevancia económica de la antropología cristiana y su potencial crítico frente al homo oeconomicus, así como la capacidad de interlocución con diversas corrientes de pensamiento contemporáneas que dicha antropología proporciona a la doctrina social de la Iglesia.This article examines the meaning of the human, complete development defended by Benedict XVI in Caritas in veritate, emphasizing its continuity with Populorum progessio and with the previous social teaching in general. After stating the existing link between economy, ethics and anthropology, the author tries to select the main ethic-economic orientations proposed in that last social encyclical in relation to a such development, and structures them beginning with two anthropological conceptions deep-rooted in the social doctrine of the church, that is, human dignity and personalism of the community. Finally, the article comments on the economic importance of Christian anthropology and its critical potential against the homo oeconomicus, as well as the capacity of being an interlocutor with several contemporary trends of thought that anthropology provides the social doctrine of the church with. The "antecedents, continuity and projections" of Neoplatonism are revised, priming the individual and communitary intertextuality, as the medium of study most valid for a train of thought that gives priority to the doctrinal body rather than to the individual. In this way are seen the diverse neoplatonic systems (Greek, Byzantine, Gnostic...) although it is also noted that, when this doctrinal aspect is weakened, Neoplatonism may externally influence the doctrines and philosophical authors who are very different from its spirit (Christians, Jews, (...) Y et the notion of pr o g ress can be traced back to a signi f icant l y earlier period: the foundations of a possi b (...) le Christian pr o g ress i vism w ere, in m y opinion, laid b y St. Augustine; this ess a y e xplores its guidelines. J . G. Herde r ' s reaction a g ainst the notion of pr o g ress proposed b y the Enlightenment possesses also a Christian inspiration. While Enlightened pr o g ress i vism conce i v es past cultures as o v ercoming steps in a rising staircase, Herde r , in turn, claims that each of them amounted to a "self-centered sphere" and w as therefore v alua b le in its o wn right. The sense of the e xistence of past generations cannot lie in p a ving the w a y for future ful f illment as this w ould be incompati b le with d i vine l o v e, w hich estimates each of its creatures in its o wn right, as an unrepeata b le ind i vidual. The present text shows the sense of the interpretation of Saint Paul and Saint Augustine that Heidegger carry out in his early Freiburg lectures. Concretly, I will point out the reason why Heidegger recovers some aspects of the christianity for his philosophical project and also to show which are the concrete elements that Saint Paul’s Epistles and Saint Augustine’s Confessions contribute to him. In this way, we will be able to appreciate, among other things, the importance granted by Heidegger to (...) the accentuation of the self-world and the temporality who is typical of the Christian experience of live. Parece que la biografía y amplia obra del dominico francés Vicente de Beauvais ha sido poco difundida en España hasta fechas muy recientes. Sin embargo, en los archivos y bibliotecas de nuestro país existen al menos 19 manuscritos y 90 obras impresas localizadas, según el Catálogo Colectivo del Patrimonio Bibliográfico Español. La historiografía demuestra que la influencia de Beauvais, entre los siglos XIII y XX, es más intensa de lo que hasta ahora se había investigado.A través de estas páginas se (...) pone de manifiesto que el número de obras conservadas de Beauvais es importante, pero más el hecho de que su obra y pensamiento, unida a la tradición clásica y cristiana previa, se ha proyectado en multitud de autores hispanos desde el siglo XIII hasta nuestros días. It seems that biography and extensive work of the French Dominican Vincent of Beauvais has been poorly disseminated in Spain until very recently. However, in the archives and libraries of our country there are at least 19 manuscripts and 90 printed works are located, according to the Collective Catalogue of the Spanish Bibliographic Heritage. Historiography shows that influence of Beauvais in our country, between the 13th and 20th centuries, is greater than what until now had been studied. Through these pages it is evident that the number of works preserved Beauvais is important, but the fact that his work and thought, united with the previous classical and Christian tradition, is powerful in many Hispanic authors from the XIII century to today. Este artículo mira resaltar el papel de los apócrifos cristianos como expresión de la piedad popular y del sentido de la fe de los fieles acerca de María de Nazaret frente a sus opositores. En este sentido, se manifiesta el desarrollo de la devoción mariana en los primeros siglos del Cristianismo, sobre todo a través del análisis del Protoevangelio de Santiago o La Natividad de María y de los diversos apócrifos que tratan de la dormitio de la Virgen. Estas obras (...) influenciaron marcadamente el arte, la liturgia y en la proclamación oficial de los dogmas marianos. /// This article seeks to highlight the role of the Christian apocrypha as an expression of the popular piety and the sense of faith of the faithful regarding Mary of Nazareth in face of its opponents. To this end, the unfolding of Marian devotion during the first centuries of Christianity is shown, especially through analysis of the Protoevangelium of James or The Nativity of Mary and diverse apocryphal writings that deal with the dormitio of the Virgin. These works markedly influenced art, liturgy, and the official proclamation of the Marian dogmas. (shrink)
