being and truth – any belief – if true, is made true by the presence, somewhere in the universe, of appropriate things, events, states of affairs, or facts truthmaker theory theory of truthmaking – a theory of relation ‘x makes y true’ deflationary – idea that there is nothing more to the concept than our taking a device of generalization – “We should aim to believe only what is true” ontological claims – not based on bare intuition fact – true proposition propositions – objects of de dicto belief phenomenalism – doctrine where each object consists in how it is experienced
