In accordance with the Enlightenment the poet insistently stands for a redefinition of justice and the rights of humanity. These he doesn’t consider abstract claims; like other fundamental modes of existence such as freedom, equality, truth, beauty, morality they are regarded as essential ways of human relationships and activities. According to Schiller the cardinal meaning of human existence can be found in the acquirement and propagation of beauty; this is to make contrary situations - present in the division of labour (...) and pleasure - grow humanly just.
