Exploring Conversational and Physiological Aspects of Psychotherapy Talk.Evrinomy Avdi & Chris Evans - 2020 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
This study is part of a larger exploration of ‘talk and cure’ that combines the examination of talk-in-interaction, with nonverbal displays, and measurements of the client’s and therapist’s autonomic arousal during therapy sessions. A key assumption of the study is that psychotherapy entails processes of intersubjective meaning-making that occur across different modalities and take place in both verbal/explicit and nonverbal/implicit domains. A single session of a psychodynamic psychotherapy is analysed with a focus on the expression and management of affect, with (...)

    The Analogical Parallax.Christine Evans - 2014 - International Journal of Žižek Studies 8 (2).
Slavoj Žižek’s methodological reliance on analogy, tautology, and examples - and particularly on crude, humorous, or popular ones - is an oft-discussed and controversial feature of his work. My aim throughout this paper is to examine certain philosophical concerns - and namely universality - in Žižek’s work. As I will propose, tautology and analogy - particularly when understood vis-a-vis desire - offer us a rhetorical means of exploring these concerns; insofar as we accept tautology and analogy as strategic/pedagogic devices, they (...)

  6. SNAP23 is selectively expressed in airway secretory cells and mediates baseline and stimulated mucin secretion.Binhui Ren, Zoulikha Azzegagh, Ana M. Airway mucin secretion is important pathophysiologically and as a model of polarized epithelial regulated exocytosis. We find the trafficking protein, SNAP23, selectively expressed in secretory cells compared with ciliated and basal cells of airway epithelium by immunohistochemistry and FACS, suggesting that SNAP23 functions in regulated but not constitutive epithelial secretion. Heterozygous SNAP23 deletant mutant mice show spontaneous accumulation of intracellular mucin, indicating a defect in baseline secretion. However mucins are released from perfused tracheas of mutant and wild-type mice at the (...)
