    Antecedents of Abusive Supervision: a Meta-analytic Review.Yucheng Zhang & Timothy C. Bednall - 2016 - Journal of Business Ethics 139 (3):455-471.
Recent studies of organizational behavior have witnessed a growing interest in unethical leadership, leading to the development of abusive supervision research. Given the increasing interest in the causes of abusive supervision, this study proposes an organizing framework for its antecedents and tests it using meta analysis. Based on an analysis of effect sizes drawn from 74 studies, comprising 30,063 participants, the relationship between abusive supervision and different antecedent categories are examined. The results generally support expected relationships across the four categories (...)

Just the Right Amount of Ethics Inspires Creativity: A Cross-Level Investigation of Ethical Leadership, Intrinsic Motivation, and Employee Creativity.Jie Feng, Yucheng Zhang, Xinmei Liu, Long Zhang & Xiao Han - 2018 - Journal of Business Ethics 153 (3):645-658.
Based on ideology-infused psychological contract theory and cognitive evaluation theory, this study investigated the curvilinear relationship between ethical leadership and employee creativity. A curvilinear mediation model was proposed to explain the impact of ethical leadership on creativity, using employee intrinsic motivation as the mediator. Applying a two wave sampling design that consist 258 employees and their leaders, we found that employee creativity improved as ethical leadership increased from low to moderate levels. However, the employee creativity improvement was attenuated when ethical (...)

Feeling Energized: A Multilevel Model of Spiritual Leadership, Leader Integrity, Relational Energy, and Job Performance.Fu Yang, Jun Liu, Zhen Wang & Yucheng Zhang - 2019 - Journal of Business Ethics 158 (4):983-997.
Past research suggests that spiritual leadership plays a pivotal role in enhancing employee job performance, yet we have little understanding of how and when spiritual leadership enhances employee job performance. The present study explores how and when spiritual leadership promotes job performance by examining relational energy as a mediator and leader integrity and relational energy differentiation as boundary conditions. We tested the theoretical model with data gathered across three phases over 12 months from 497 employees and their supervisors in 108 (...)

Informal Status and Taking Charge: The Different Roles of OBSE, P-J Fit, and P-S Fit.Chuanjun Deng, Shudi Liao, Zhiqiang Liu, Yucheng Zhang & Yan Bao - 2020 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
Status in an organization is considered a significant antecedent to an employee's work-related behaviors. However, the relationship between knowledge workers' informal status and "taking charge" has been ignored in previous human resource management (HRM) research. Based on the self-consistency theory, this study examines the mechanisms underlying the influence of knowledge workers’ informal status on taking charge. Data were collected from 337 dyads of employees and their immediate supervisors in 24 enterprises and companies. Based on moderated mediation analysis, results indicated that (...)

A Study of the Mechanism of the Congruence of Leader–Follower Power Distance Orientation on Employees’ Task Performance.Yan Bao, Shudi Liao, Jianqiao Liao, Yucheng Zhang, Chuanjun Deng & Zhiwen Guo - 2019 - Frontiers in Psychology 10:441710.
Based on implicit leadership theory, we examine the congruence effect of leader-follower power distance orientation on follower trust in a supervisor and work engagement, which in turn influences employees’ task performance. Results of Polynomial regressions on 526 dyads supported the congruence effect hypothesis. The results show that (1) the congruence of leader-follower power distance orientation leads to better performance; (2) under the condition of congruence, Subordinate task performance is higher when leader-follower power distance orientation matching in low-low ratings congruence than (...)
