The Curvilinear Relationship Between Ethical Leadership and Team Creativity: The Moderating Role of Team Faultlines.Shenjiang Mo, Chu-Ding Ling & Xiao-Yun Xie - 2019 - Journal of Business Ethics 154 (1):229-242.
In this study, we built and tested a theoretical model to determine how ethical leadership affects team creativity among teams composed of different characteristics. Following social learning theory and an antecedent–benefit–cost framework, we conducted analyses of multisource data from 50 team supervisors and 186 employees, which revealed an inverted U-shaped relationship between ethical leadership and team creativity. The teams exhibited more creativity when there was a moderate level of ethical leadership than when there were very low or very high levels. (...)

Contextual Cueing Effect Under Rapid Presentation.Xiaowei Xie, Siyi Chen & Xuelian Zang - 2020 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
In contextual cueing, previously encountered context tends to facilitate the detection of the target embedded in it than when the target appears in a novel context. In this study, we investigated whether the contextual cueing could develop at early time when the search display was presented briefly. In four experiments, participants searched for a target T in an array of distractor Ls. The results showed that with a rather short presentation time of the search display, participants were able to learn (...)

Universality vs. Cultural Specificity in the Relations Among Emotional Contagion, Emotion Regulation, and Mood State: An Emotion Process Perspective.Beibei Kuang, Shenli Peng, Xiaochun Xie & Ping Hu - 2019 - Frontiers in Psychology 10.
To investigate the universality and cultural specificity of emotion processing in children from different ethnic groups (Han, Jingpo and Dai), we conducted three questionnaires, including emotional contagion scale, emotion regulation scale and the Chinese mood adjective check list (CMACL), among 1,362 ethnic Han, Dai and Jingpo participants (Mage = 13.78 years). We found emotion regulation (reappraisal and suppression) mediated the relations between emotional contagion and mood state, relation: (1) emotional contagion (positive and negative) increased positive mood state and decreased negative (...)

Eagerness and Optimistically Biased Metaperception: The More Eager to Learn Others’ Evaluations, the Higher the Estimation of Others’ Evaluations.Jingyi Lu, Hebing Duan & Xiaofei Xie - 2018 - Frontiers in Psychology 9:345357.
People frequently judge how they are viewed by others during social interactions. These judgments are called metaperceptions. This study investigates the relationship between eagerness to determine the evaluation of others and metaperceptions. We propose that eagerness, which reflects approach motivation, induces positive emotions. We apply feelings-as-information theory and hypothesize that positive emotions cause optimistic self-evaluations and metaperceptions. Participants in three studies interact with judges during a singing contest (Study 1), a speech (Study 2), and an interview (Study 3). Results corroborate (...)

  10. Effects and Moderators of Computer-Based Training on Children's Executive Functions: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.Yifei Cao, Ting Huang, Jipeng Huang, Xiaochun Xie & Yuan Wang - 2020 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
Computer-based training has attracted increasing attention from researchers in recent years. Several studies have found that computer-based training resulted in improved executive functions in adults. However, it remains controversial whether children can benefit from computer-based training and what moderator could influence the training effects. The focus of the present meta-analysis was to examine the effects of computer-based training on EFs in children: working memory, cognitive flexibility, and inhibitory control. A thorough search of published work yielded a sample of 36 studies (...)

A new look at the “asian disease” problem: A choice between the best possible outcomes or between the worst possible outcomes?Shu Li & Xiaofei Xie - 2006 - Thinking and Reasoning 12 (2):129 – 143.
The “Asian disease” problem (Tversky & Kahneman, 1981) demonstrated behaviour in contradiction to the invariance axiom of EU theory. However, the risky choice behaviour was simply seen by the equate-to-differentiate model as a choice between the best possible outcomes or a choice between the worst possible outcomes. It was then argued that a way in which frame influences choice is through the perceived difference between possible outcomes. A “judgement” task was designed to examine whether the knowledge of “the value difference (...)

Identification of Urban Functional Area by Using Multisource Geographic Data: A Case Study of Zhengzhou, China.Jingzhong Li, Xiao Xie, Bingyu Zhao, Xiao Xiao, Jingxin Qiao & Wanxia Ren - 2021 - Complexity 2021:1-10.
The rational allocation of functional areas is the foundation for addressing the sustainable development of cities. Efficient and accurate identification methods of urban functional areas are of great significance to the adjustment and testing of urban planning and industrial layout optimization. Firstly, by employing multisource geographic data, an identification method of urban functional areas was developed. A quantitative measurement approach of the urban functional area was then established considering the comprehensive effects of human-land, space-time, and thematic information to present the (...)

Incidental vocabulary acquisition from listening to English teacher education lectures: A case study from Macau higher education.Barry Lee Reynolds, Xiaowen Xie & Quy Huynh Phu Pham - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13:993445.
Some proponents of higher education English as a medium of instruction have suggested listening to English lectures provides students the opportunity to incidentally acquire unknown words. A case study was designed to examine this assumption. First, the lexical profiles of 27 Introduction to English Language Teaching first-year undergraduate course lectures were computed to determine how many words students need to know for comprehension. Then an incoming year-1 undergraduate student with an English vocabulary size of 7,500 word families and mastery of (...)

Robust Control Design for an Uncertain Macroeconomic Dynamical System with Unknown Characteristics and Inequality Control Constraint.Xiaorui Xie & Ye-Hwa Chen - 2021 - Complexity 2021:1-13.
The stabilization problem of a macroeconomic dynamical system is considered in this paper. The main features of this system are that the system uncertainties may be unknown functions of state and time but with known bounds. Furthermore, the control inputs are subject to constraints, which is a salient feature in an economic control problem. To ensure that the controls are within the specified boundaries, in our control design procedure, a creative diffeomorphism, which converts bounded controls into unbounded corresponding signals by (...)

Claim Amount Forecasting and Pricing of Automobile Insurance Based on the BP Neural Network.Wenguang Yu, Guofeng Guan, Jingchao Li, Qi Wang, Xiaohan Xie, Yu Zhang, Yujuan Huang, Xinliang Yu & Chaoran Cui - 2021 - Complexity 2021:1-17.
The BP neural network model is a hot issue in recent academic research, and it has been successfully applied to many other fields, but few researchers apply the BP neural network model to the field of automobile insurance. The main method that has been used in the prediction of the total claim amount in automobile insurance is the generalized linear model, where the BP neural network model could provide a different approach to estimate the total claim loss. This paper uses (...)

Task-Irrelevant Context Learned Under Rapid Display Presentation: Selective Attention in Associative Blocking.Xuelian Zang, Leonardo Assumpção, Jiao Wu, Xiaowei Xie & Artyom Zinchenko - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
In the contextual cueing task, visual search is faster for targets embedded in invariant displays compared to targets found in variant displays. However, it has been repeatedly shown that participants do not learn repeated contexts when these are irrelevant to the task. One potential explanation lays in the idea of associative blocking, where salient cues block the learning of invariant associations in the task-irrelevant subset of items. An alternative explanation is that the associative blocking rather hinders the allocation of attention (...)
