This study is divided into two main parts: exposition of the main themes of Process and Reality and criticism. The exposition is organized around the twin motifs of "freedom" and "condition." The former refers to such notions as mental pole, conceptual feelings, final causation, novelty, flux, and subjective aim. The latter refers to things like physical pole, physical feelings, efficient causation, conformation of feeling, permanence, and objectification. The points of criticism all relate to the general problem of the tension between the factor of freedom and the factor of condition. For example, the author tries to resolve the incompatibility between the indivisible unity of an actual occasion and the fact that it undergoes successive modifications of its subjective aim. He points out the difficulty in maintaining the doctrine of freedom when the modification of the subjective aim is effected by determinate elements. Pols feels that Whitehead's system places the seat of power in the eternal objects. It is they that are really effecting the difference between real and general potentiality. It is this special status of the eternal objects that, for Pols, constitutes "The Platonism of Whitehead." I formulate an account, in terms of essence and ground, that explains why atomic Russellian propositions have the truth conditions they do. The key ideas are that (i) atomic propositions are just 0-adic relations, (ii) truth is just the 1-adic version of the instantiation (or, as I will say, holding) relation (Menzel 1993: 86, note 27), and (iii) atomic propositions have the truth conditions they do for basically the same reasons that partially plugged relations, like being an x and a (...) y such that Philip gave x to y, have the holding conditions they do. The account is meant to be mainly of intrinsic interest, but I hope that it goes some distance toward answering an objection to classical theories of propositions put forward by King (2014), who writes that ‘since the classical conception of propositions as things that have truth conditions by their very natures and independently of minds and languages is incapable of explaining how or why propositions have truth conditions, it is unacceptable’ (2014: 47). Propositions do have their truth conditions ‘by their very natures’ and ‘independently of minds and languages’. But a fact about a given entity can hold by the very nature of that entity without being a fundamental fact. I argue that this is plausibly the case for atomic Russellian propositions and the facts about their truth conditions. A fact about the truth conditions of such a proposition holds by the very nature of the given proposition but is metaphysically grounded in facts about that proposition’s parts and their essences. If my account is correct, then the supposedly intractable problem of explaining why the given propositions have the truth conditions they do reduces to the problem of explaining why relations have the holding essences they do, which few seem to have found worrisome . We give an axiomatic framework for the non-modular simple 0-categorical structures constructed by Hrushovski. This allows us to verify some of their properties in a uniform way, and to show that these properties are preserved by iterations of the construction.

0-categorical o-minimal structures were completely described by Pillay and Steinhorn 565–592), and are essentially built up from copies of the rationals as an ordered set by ‘cutting and copying’. Here we investigate the possible structures which an 0-categorical weakly o-minimal set may carry, and find that there are some rather more interesting examples. We show that even here the possibilities are limited. We subdivide our study into the following principal cases: the structure is 1-indiscernible, in which case all possibilities are (...) classified up to binary structure; the structure is 2-indiscernible, classified up to ternary structure; the structure is 3-indiscernible, in which case we show that it is k-indiscernible for every finite k. We also make some remarks about the possible structures of higher arities which an 0-categorical weakly o-minimal structure may carry. (shrink)

We continue exploring analogues of o-minimality and weak o-minimality for circularly ordered sets. The main result is a description of ℵ0-categorical 1-transitive non-primitive weakly circularly minimal structures of convexity rank 1 up to binarity.

The property of smallness for Π0 1 classes is introduced and is investigated with respect to Medvedev and Muchnik degree. It is shown that the property of containing a small Π0 1 class depends only on the Muchnik degree of a Π0 1 class. A comparison is made with the idea of thinness for Π0 1 classesmsthm.

This paper has three parts. First, we establish some of the basic model theoretic facts about, the Tsirelson space of Figiel and Johnson [20]. Second, using the results of the first part, we give some facts about general Banach spaces. Third, we study model‐theoretic dividing lines in some Banach spaces and their theories. In particular, we show: (1) has the non independence property (NIP); (2) every Banach space that is ℵ0‐categorical up to small perturbations embeds c0 or () almost isometrically; (...) consequently the (continuous) first‐order theory of does not characterize, up to almost isometric isomorphism. The relevance of this topic is determined by the processes of “globalization 4.0”, taking place in a new industrial revolution, which brings about both positive and negative consequences in science, medicine, engineering, financial sphere, geopolitical, and cultural dimensions. Digital technologies based on software and social networks become more effective and integrated, causing transformation in all spheres of the global economy. The purpose of the study is to analyze the development of smart technologies in medicine in conditions of “Globalization 4.0”. The (...) objective of the study is social and philosophical analysis of the “globalization 4.0” phenomenon and the revolutions that preceded itin the context of these revolutions the problems of smart technologies in medicine are developing; the study of the interaction problems of society, man and innovations in the sphere of medicine as mutually determined phenomena of human existence that satisfy, enrich and complement each other. The state of theme study that initiated problem solution: the concept of “globalization 4.0” entered the scientific world due to the works of Klaus Schwab, a German economist, founder and president of the World Economic Forum in Davos, the author of the book “The Fourth Industrial Revolution”. Various aspects of this phenomenon that influenced its formation were reflected in the articles and monographs of Ukrainian scholars - V. Voronkova, V. Lukianets, O. Kravchenko, L. Ozadovska, V. Liakh, V. Pazeniuk, C. Raida, and others, as well as a series of Western scholars such as Ken Robinson, Samuel Greengard, Aarathi Prasad, Martin Ford, Kevin Kelli and others. Study methodology. The study methodology includes analysis of new smart technologies phenomena in medicine in the context of “globalization 4.0” that is developing in front of our eyes and is built on the basis of an integrated approach in the context of interdisciplinary character. The article uses such methods of scientific knowledge as analysis and synthesis, measurement, transition from abstract to concrete, synergistic approach, due to which it was possible to analyze complex problems of smart technologies in medicine. The scientific novelty of the study – is the identification of interaction problems between man, society and medicine in the conditions of “globalization 4.0”, which contribute to the formation of a new technological space. Results of the study: the positive and negative effects of “globalization 4.0” for the development of society, medicine and human beings are analyzed; the future scenarios in overcoming of dangerous diseases for humanity are revealed. We show that each of Δ13-CA0 + Σ13-IND and Π12-CA0 + Π13-TI proves Δ03-Det and that neither Σ31-IND nor Π13-TI can be dropped. We also show that neither Δ13-CA0 + Σ1∞-IND nor Π12-CA0 + Π1∞-TI proves Σ03-Det. Moreover, we prove that none of Δ21-CA0, Σ31-IND and Π21-TI is provable in Δ11-Det0 = ACA0 + Δ11-Det.

We prove that if G is a Δ 0 -definable function on the natural numbers and F = Π i = 0 n G , then F is also Δ 0 -definable. Moreover, the inductive properties of F can be proved inside the theory IΔ 0.

Актуальність теми зумовлена тим, що глобалізаційні процеси в економіці України, деструктивні явища в галузях промисловості, інституційні перетворення, що потребують креативних інноваційних рішень, вимагають удосконалення наукових поглядів на побудову моделі менеджменту промислових підприємств, яка б гуртувалась на гнучкому механізмі та враховувала кризові умови їх функціонування та забезпечувала можливості сталого економічного розвитку у майбутньому. Мета дослідження – концептуалізація та моделювання процесів побудови гнучкого менеджменту промислового підприємства, спрямованого на упередження втрати людського потенціалу, руйнування екологічних систем, забрудненості навколишнього середовища, тобто на забезпечення екологічної і (...) соціальної безпеки промислового виробництва. Аналіз останніх досліджень і публікацій, в яких започатковано розв’язання даної проблеми. У своєму дослідженні ми спираємся на роботу Аппело Юргена. Менеджмент 3.0. Agile-менеджмент. Лідерство та управління командами, яка об’єднує найсучасніші ідеї у сфері складних адаптивних систем, гнучкого керування та ощадливого постачання, пропонуючи здоровий, розумний, гнучкий і практичний механізм ефективного управління у ХХІ сторіччі, що представляє сучасну концепцію менеджменту 3.0. В статті ми спираємося також на роботи таких вчених, як Андрюкайтене Регіни, Воронкової В.Г., Пунченко О.П., Сосніна О.В., Старжинського В.В., Цепкало В.В., Череп А.В., а також на власні дослідження – Метеленко Н.Г., Сіліної І.В., Шапурова О.О. Концепція менеджменту 3.0 надає дорожню карту провідним командам у разі невизначеності та пропонує багату колекцію локальних моделей для безпосереднього використання, щоб краще адаптуватися до сучасних умов стохастичності, невизначеності, біфуркаційності та забезпечити розумне, адаптивне та практичне управління на промисловому підприємстві. Наукова новизна дослідження – обґрунтування ключових ознак фінансової та соціально-економічної кризи в промисловості, зокрема в стратегічних галузях – машинобудування і металургія та філософії побудови сучасної моделі гнучкого менеджменту на основі процесно – операційного підходу, спрямованої на розвиток інноваційно – інформаційної інфраструктури промислового підприємства у напряму забезпечення міжнародної конкурентоспроможності промислового виробництва та його сталий розвиток в умовах глобалізації. The basic reproduction ratio, R0, is a fundamental concept in epidemiology. It is defined as the total number of secondary infections brought on by a single primary infection, in a totally susceptible population. The value of R0 indicates whether a starting epidemic reaches a considerable part of the population and causes a lot of damage, or whether it remains restricted to a relatively small number of individuals. To calculate R0 one has to evaluate an integral that ranges over the duration (...) of the infection of the host. This duration is, of course, limited by remaining host longevity. So, R0 depends on remaining host longevity and in this paper we show that for long-lived hosts this aspect may not be ignored for long-lasting infections. We investigate in particular how this epidemiological measure of pathogen fitness depends on host longevity. For our analyses we adopt and combine a generic within- and between-host model from the literature. To find the optimal strategy for a pathogen from an evolutionary point of view, we focus on the indicator $$R_0^{{opt}}$$, i.e., the optimum of R0 as a function of its replication and mutation rates. These are the within-host parameters that the pathogen has at its disposal to optimize its strategy. We show that $$R_0^{{opt}}$$ is highly influenced by remaining host longevity in combination with the contact rate between hosts in a susceptible population. In addition, these two parameters determine whether a killer-like or a milker-like strategy is optimal for a given pathogen. In the killer-like strategy the pathogen has a high rate of reproduction within the host in a short time span causing a relatively short disease, whereas in the milker-like strategy the pathogen multiplies relatively slowly, producing a continuous small amount of offspring over time with a small effect on host health. The present research allows for the determination of a bifurcation line in the plane of host longevity versus contact rate that forms the boundary between the milker-like and killer-like regions. This plot shows that for short remaining host longevities the killer-like strategy is optimal, whereas for very long remaining host longevities the milker-like strategy is advantageous. For in-between values of host longevity, the contact rate determines which of both strategies is optimal. (shrink)

We present an overview of the topics in the title and of some of the key results pertaining to them. These have historically been topics of interest in computability theory and continue to be a rich source of problems and ideas. In particular, we draw attention to the links and connections between these topics and explore their significance to modern research in the field.

We say that A≤LRB if every B-random set is A-random with respect to Martin–Löf randomness. We study this relation and its interactions with Turing reducibility, classes, hyperimmunity and other recursion theoretic notions.

We present a search engine for mathematical formulae. The MathWebSearch system harvests the web for content representations of formulae and indexes them with substitution tree indexing. In version 0.4 we have parallelized and distributed the search server and augmented the web interface with a new JavaScript-based visual editor for content math formulae. Furthermore, we have extended the query language by generalization, variants, unification, and text search facilities, which can also be mixed. Our purpose in this note is to study countable $\aleph_0$-categorical structures whose theories are tree-decomposable in the sense of Baldwin and Shelah. The permutation group corresponding to such a structure can be decomposed in a canonical manner into simpler permutation groups in the same class. As an application of the analysis we show that these structures are finitely homogeneous.

In a 1994 paper entitled "Ist eine reine Inhaltslogik moglich?" M. Liske attempted to show that Leibniz's theory of intensional concepts suffers from a serious inadequacy. Liske begins by defining the intension of a concept in two slightly different ways. Broadly conceived, Int is the set of all concepts B which are contained in A, while in a narrow sense, Int* consists of all such B other than A itself. These definitions entail that the tautological concept 0 has an empty (...) intension in the narrow sense, i. e. Int*= Ø, while Int={0}. Furthermore it follows that the intension* of a negated individual-concept also is empty. And from this Liske concludes that the intensions* of all negative concepts must be empty. This, however, is a fallacy which rests upon conflating the empty set, Ø, with the non-empty set {Ø}, which contains Ø as its only element. (shrink)

In this paper we study the reducibility order m (defined in a natural way) over n 0 -equivalence relations. In particular, for every n> 0 we exhibit n 0 -equivalence relations which are complete with respect to m and investigate some consequences of this fact (see Introduction).

Let T be the standard Veblen 1908 ordinal notation system for Γ0 as defined, for example, in Schütte's 1977 textbook [13] on Proof Theory. We define a slight modification of the standard assignment of fundamental sequences for the limit ordinals in T and prove that Γ0 is subrecursively inaccessible for this assignment, i.e. the induced slow and fast growing hierarchy match up at Γ0 for the first time.The results of this paper also indicate that φε00 may be considered as a (...) new slow growing ordinal of PA in the sense that the induced slow growing hierarchy up to φε00 classifies the PA-provablyrecursive functions.We show how the results of this paper can be used to bui d a subrecursive hierarchyover the predicative ordinals in the spirit of Wainer's 1970 abstract [16 ]. It is a long standing open problem whether or not the Axiom of Countable Choice implies the fragment of Martin's Axiom either in or in. In this direction, we provide a partial answer by establishing that the Boolean Prime Ideal Theorem in conjunction with the Countable Union Theorem does not imply restricted to complete Boolean algebras in. Furthermore, we prove that the latter (formally) weaker form of and the Δ‐system Lemma are independent of each other in.We also answer open questions (...) from Tachtsis [16] which concern the status of restricted to complete Boolean algebras in certain Fraenkel–Mostowski permutation models of and we strengthen some results from the above paper.
