Avicennino razumijevanje bitka je određeno religijskim kontekstom njegove misli i jezikom u kojem je ta misao ostvarena.Ideja Prvoga počela kao Počela bitka utemeljena je na poimanju da su bića u svijetu kontingentna: biće može postojati, ali može i ne postojati, jer njegovo postojanje ovisi o nekom uzroku. A budući da lanac uzrokâ ne može biti beskonačan, mora postojati neki prvi uzrok, čiji bitak – budući da prvi uzrok nije uzrokovan – mora biti nužan. Taj prvi neuzrokovani uzrok nužnoga (...) bitka jest podarivatelj bitka svemu kontingentnome. Odatle i Avicennina ideja o bitku koji se »pridružuje« bîti.No arapski jezik također upućuje na takovu ideju. Budući da u arapskome nema glagola koji znači ‘biti’, arapski logičari nisu mogli formulirati čisti egzistencijalni iskaz. Zato su umjesto egzistencijalnog iskaza rabili atributivni iskaz koji se po dogovoru smatrao egzistencijalnim. U takovu iskazu bitak uistinu jest »nešto« što se atribuira bîti bića, a ta konceptualizacija bitka osnova je Avicennine ideje o bitku kao svojevrsnom prigodku bîti.Avicennas Seinsverständnis ist durch den religiösen Zusammenhang seiner Gedanken und die Sprache, in der diese Gedanken zum Wort gekommen sind, bestimmt.Die Idee des ersten Prinzips als des Seinsprinzips gründet sich auf der Auffassung, dass das Seiende in der Welt kontingent ist: das Seiende kann existieren, aber auch nicht existieren, weil seine Existenz von einer Ursache abhängt. Da die Kette von Ursachen nicht unendlich sein kann, muss eine erste Ursache existieren, die selbst nicht verursacht ist. Diese erste unverursachte Ursache des notwendigen Seins gibt allem Kontingenten das Sein. Daher stammt Avicennas Idee des dem Wesen „zukommenden“ Seins.Auch die arabische philosophische Terminologie weist auf eine solche Idee hin. Da es im Arabischen kein Verb in der Bedeutung ‘sein’ gibt, konnten die arabischen Logiker nicht die reine existenziale Aussage formulieren. Deshalb haben sie statt der existenzialen Aussage die attributive Aussage in der existenzialen Bedeutung verwendet. In einer solchen Aussage ist das Sein tatsächlich „etwas“ was dem Wesen des Seienden attribuiert wird. Diese Konzeptualisation ist bei Avicenna die Grundlage für die Idee des Seins als des eigenartigen Akzidenz des Wesens. (shrink)

Para acercarnos a esta tarea, es necesario remitirnos a los senderos de historia Republicana, la cual se puede decir no es tan larga que digamos. It is common to hear talk of the aim of belief and to find philosophers appealing to that aim for numerous explanatory purposes. What belief 's aim explains depends, of course, on what that aim is. Many hold that it is somehow related to truth, but there are various ways in which one might specify belief 's aim using the notion of truth. In this article, by considering whether they can account for belief 's standard of correctness and the epistemic (...) norms governing belief, I argue against certain prominent specifications of belief 's aim given in terms of truth, and advance a neglected alternative. Sometimes, learning about the origins of a belief can make it irrational to continue to hold that belief—a phenomenon we call ‘genealogical defeat’. According to explanationist accounts, genealogical defeat occurs when one learns that there is no appropriate explanatory connection between one’s belief and the truth. Flatfooted versions of explanationism have been widely and rightly rejected on the grounds that they would disallow beliefs about the future and other inductively-formed beliefs. After motivating the need for some explanationist account, we raise (...) some problems for recent versions of explanationism. Infallibilism is the view that a belief cannot be at once warranted and false. In this essay we assess three nonpartisan arguments for infallibilism, arguments that do not depend on a prior commitment to some substantive theory of warrant. Three premises, one from each argument, are most significant: if a belief can be at once warranted and false, then the Gettier Problem cannot be solved; if a belief can be at once warranted and false, then its warrant can be transferred (...) to an accidentally true belief; if a belief can be at once warranted and false, then it can be warranted and accidentally true. We argue that each of these is either false or no more plausible than its denial. Along the way, we offer a solution to the Gettier Problem that is compatible with fallibilism. (shrink)

Para matemáticos interesados en problemas de fundamentos, lógico-matemáticos y filósofos de la matemática, el axioma de elección es centro obligado de reflexión, pues ha sido considerado esencial en el debate dentro de las posiciones consideradas clásicas en filosofía de la matemática (intuicionismo, formalismo, logicismo, platonismo), pero también ha tenido una presencia fundamental para el desarrollo de la matemática y metamatemática contemporánea. Desde una posición que privilegia el quehacer matemático, nos proponemos mostrar los aportes que ha tenido el axioma en varias (...) áreas fundamentales de la matemática, su aplicación en la lógica de primer orden, así como una breve descripción de las pruebas de consistencia relativa debidas a Gödel y Cohen, las cuales establecieron su independencia del sistema axiomático Zermelo-Fraenkel (ZF). Con todo lo anterior mostraremos cómo el quehacer matemático contemporáneo se adscribe al platonismo matemático en los términos de Bernays y Ferreirós. Revisaremos también los argumentos de Zermelo y Cantor para permitir el uso de asunciones en la matemática, los cuales se acercan a los planteamientos de la investigación científica y esbozan relaciones con la filosofía de la práctica matemática. Finalmente, justificamos el uso del axioma de elección en la contemporaneidad, abogando por unas relaciones de equidad entre la matemática y la filosofía, presentando además su plena vigencia, a través de la referencia a algunos problemas abiertos en la actualidad que vinculan el axioma de elección con la teoría de Ramsey. Supererogatory acts—good deeds “beyond the call of duty”—are a part of moral common sense, but conceptually puzzling. I propose a unified solution to three of the most infamous puzzles: the classic Paradox of Supererogation (if it’s so good, why isn’t it just obligatory?), Horton’s All or Nothing Problem, and Kamm’s Intransitivity Paradox. I conclude that supererogation makes sense if, and only if, the grounds of rightness are multi-dimensional and comparative.

Os biógrafos de Newton resistiram muito até admitir que os escritos esotéricos fossem genuíno interesse do sábio e que tivessem importância para entender sua trajetória intelectual. As publicações aqui indicadas afirmam o contrário, seguindo trilha aberta por ensaio pioneiro de J. M. Keynes (1946).

The present text constitutes a summary of a talk given by the author at the III Conferência Brasileira de Educação. It is here claimed that there is a need to discuss the roots of the idea of rights of the individual and of its link, in Locke's founding thought, with property and, moreover, with the freedom and autonomy of the human person. Furthermore, a discussion is made of the liberal-rationalist assumption of the optimum allocation of social resources through the clash (...) and combination of private interests. A twofold crisis of our times: crisis of the view of a self-regulated Laplacean universe and the crisis of the belief in the optimum allocation via market. The idea of the intervention of the State in the economy does not mean a destruction of private property nor of the value law and of profit. It only attests to its survival and seeks to ensure its implementation. Can't the idea of education be analogously thought of as a social right guaranteed and allocated by the State; as an investment in "human capital"? What is the meaning of the expression "educational policy"?O presente texto constitui síntese de comunicação do autor à III Conferência Brasileira de Educação. Afirma-se a necessidade de discutir as raízes da idéia de direitos do indivíduo e seu vínculo, no pensamento fundador de Locke, com a propriedade e, mais ainda, a liberdade e autonomia da pessoa humana. Discute-se ainda o suposto liberal-racionalista de alocação ótima dos recursos sociais através do choque e combinação de interesses privados. Uma dupla crise de nossos tempos: crise da concepção de universo auto-regulado laplaceano e a crise da crença na alocação ótima via mercado. A idéia de intervenção do Estado na economia não significa a destruição da propriedade privada, da lei do valor e do lucro. Apenas atesta a sua sobrevivência e procura garantir seu desenvolvimento. Não se pode pensar analogamente a idéia de educação como direito social garantido e alocado pelo Estado, como investimento no "capital humano"?
