Demographic Continuity as a Necessary Condition of Performable Post-communist Token Social Restorations.Zenonas Norkus, Jurgita Markevičiūtė, Ola Grytten & Gatis Krūminš - 2023 - Filosofija. Sociologija 34 (4Priedas|S).
We test the hypothesis that demographic continuity was a necessary condition of performable token post-communist social restorations. Demographic continuity means sufficient overlapping between populations of original and restored systems. Token social restoration refers to restorations where original and restored systems are identical. It is opposed to type restoration where original and restored systems are numerically different instances of the same type. The identity of original and restored systems in token restorations is achieved by performing various practices in the restored system (...)

Ethical considerations for involving adolescents in biomedical HIV prevention research.Andrew Mujugira, Kenneth Ngure, Juliet Allen Babirye, Joel Maena, Joselyne Nansimbe, Simon Afrika Akasiima, Hadijah Kalule Nabunya, Florence Biira, Emmie Mulumba, Maria Janine Nambusi, Stella Nanyonga, Sophie C. Nanziri, Doreen Kemigisha, Teopista Nakyanzi, Juliane Etima, Betty Kamira, Monica Nolan, Clemensia Nakabiito, Brenda Gati, Carolyne Akello & Rita Nakalega - 2021 - BMC Medical Ethics 22 (1):1-7.
BackgroundInvolvement of adolescent girls in biomedical HIV research is essential to better understand efficacy and safety of new prevention interventions in this key population at high risk of HIV infection. However, there are many ethical issues to consider prior to engaging them in pivotal biomedical research. In Uganda, 16–17-year-old adolescents can access sexual and reproductive health services including for HIV or other sexually transmitted infections, contraception, and antenatal care without parental consent. In contrast, participation in HIV prevention research involving investigational (...)

  12. Nāgārjuna’s Arguments on Motion Revisited.Jan Westerhoff - 2008 - Journal of Indian Philosophy 36 (4):455-479.
This paper discusses a somewhat neglected reading of the second chapter of Nāgārjuna’s Mūlamadhyamakakārikā, arguing that the main focus of a crucial part is a particular theory of properties and their relation to individuals they instantiate, rather than the refutation of specific assumptions about the nature of space and time. Some of Nāgārjuna’s key arguments about motion should be understood as argument templates in which notions other than mover, motion, and so forth could be substituted. The remainder of the discussion (...)

  13. The Technologisation of the Social: A Political Anthropology of the Digital Machine.Paul O'Connor & Marius Ion Benta (eds.) - 2021 - London, UK: Routledge.
In an era of digital revolution, artificial intelligence, big data and augmented reality, technology has shifted from being a tool of communication to a primary medium of experience and sociality. Some of the most basic human capacities are increasingly being outsourced to machines and we increasingly experience and interpret the world through digital interfaces, with machines becoming ever more ‘social’ beings. Social interaction and human perception are being reshaped in unprecedented ways. This book explores this technologisation of the social and (...)
