Supervisor-Subordinate (Dis)agreement on Ethical Leadership: An Investigation of its Antecedents and Relationship to Organizational Deviance.Maribeth Kuenzi, Michael E. Brown, David M. Mayer & Manuela Priesemuth - 2019 - Business Ethics Quarterly 29 (1):25-53.
ABSTRACT:We examine supervisor-subordinate agreement regarding perceptions of the supervisor’s ethical leadership and its relationship to organizational deviance. We find that, on average, supervisors rate themselves more favorably on ethical leadership compared to how followers rate them. In addition, polynomial regression results reveal that unit-level organizational deviance is higher when there is agreement about lower levels of ethical leadership, and disagreement when supervisors rate themselves higher on ethical leadership than subordinates’ ratings of the supervisors. Finally, drawing on social influence theories, we (...)

    Captivity or Autonomy? Philipp Melanchthon's Theological Anthropology.Gregory B. Graybill - 2011 - Inquiry: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Philosophy 54 (5):460 - 477.
Abstract Theology may well provide useful insights into the question of human autonomy?if one is willing to entertain the existence and authority of God as expressed through the scriptures. Accordingly, the Bible presents humanity as designed to exercise much autonomy. But, humanity immediately abused that freedom, resulting in the present universal captivity of the human will to sin and death. The will can now only be liberated from its self-centered bondage through the substitutionary death and resurrection of the God?Man Jesus (...)

  6. Examining the Link Between Ethical Leadership and Employee Misconduct: The Mediating Role of Ethical Climate. [REVIEW]David M. Mayer, Maribeth Kuenzi & Rebecca L. Greenbaum - 2010 - Journal of Business Ethics 95 (1):7-16.
Drawing on theory and research on ethical leadership and ethical climate, we examine ethical climate as a mediator of the relationship between ethical leadership and employee misconduct. Using a sample of 1,525 employees and their supervisors in 300 units in different organizations, we find support for our hypothesized model. We discuss theoretical and practical implications of these findings.

Leader Goal Orientation and Ethical Leadership: A Socio-Cognitive Approach of the Impact of Leader Goal-Oriented Behavior on Employee Unethical Behavior.Dennis J. Marquardt, Wendy J. Casper & Maribeth Kuenzi - 2020 - Journal of Business Ethics 172 (3):545-561.
Ethical leadership is an important construct in the literature on behavioral ethics in organizations, given its link with employee attitudes and behaviors. What remains unclear, however, is what leader characteristics are associated directly with ethical leader perceptions and indirectly with employee unethical behavior. In this paper, we use a socio-cognitive lens to integrate goal orientation theory with the literature on ethical behavior in organizations. Specifically, we propose that certain patterns of managers’ goal-oriented behavior provide signals and cues to employees about (...)

  10. Employee Reactions to Internet Monitoring: The Moderating Role of Ethical Orientation.G. Stoney Alder, Marshall Schminke, Terry W. Noel & Maribeth Kuenzi - 2007 - Journal of Business Ethics 80 (3):481-498.
Research has demonstrated that employee reactions to monitoring systems depend on both the characteristics of the monitoring system and how it is implemented. However, little is known about the role individual differences may play in this process. This study proposes that individuals have generalized attitudes toward organizational control and monitoring activities. We examined this argument by assessing the relationship between employees’ baseline attitudes toward a set of monitoring and control techniques that span the employment relationship. We further explore the effects (...)
