  1. Laughing Matters: Prolegomena.Giorgio Baruchello & Ársæll Már Arnarsson - 2023 - De Gruyter.
The present book addresses the background, rationale, general structure, and particular aims and arguments characterizing our third and last volume about "humor" and "cruelty". A guiding foray is provided into the vast expert literature that can be retrieved in the Western humanities and social sciences on these two terms. Pivotal thinkers and crucial notions are duly identified, highlighted, and examined. Apposite subsidiary references are also included, especially with regard to psychodynamics and clinical psychology, existentialism, feminism, liberalism, Marxism, and representative recent (...)

  • Approaching Hegel's logic, obliquely: Melville, Moliére, Beckett.Angelica Nuzzo - 2018 - Albany: SUNY Press.
An unprecedented reading of Hegel’s Logic that sets this difficult work in a dialogue with literary texts. In this book, Angelica Nuzzo proposes a reading of Hegel’s Logic as “logic of transformation” and “logic of action,” and supports this thesis by looking to works of literature and history as exemplary of Hegel’s argument and method. By examining Melville’s Billy Budd, Molière’s Tartuffe, Beckett’s Endgame, Elizabeth Bishop’s and Giacomo Leopardi’s late poetry along with Thucydides’ History in this way, Nuzzo finds an (...)

  • Discursive strategies in Chavez's political discourse: voicing, distancing, and shifting.Antonio Reyes-Rodríguez - 2008 - Critical Discourse Studies 5 (2):133-152.
I present a new theoretical model to analyze political speeches to account for discursive strategies. This innovative method systematically traces voices in political discourse and correlates their discursive goals with their linguistic and paralinguistic means of realization. I demonstrate, following Goffman's idea of footing, and Bakhtin's ideas of heteroglossia and double voicing, that the speaker's role can be consistently traced during a speech: specifically, I study Chavez's intervention at the UN in 2005. Each of the three role perspectives – narrator, (...)

  • Freedom, Equality and Fraternity in Kant’s Critique of Judgement.Agnes Heller - 2018 - Critical Horizons 19 (3):187-197.
ABSTRACTAt least during his critical period, all of Kant’s philosophical works have a secret political dimension. Among other things, following the analysis of Hannah Arendt, the Critique of Judgment – paragraph 40 in particular – became a main text of political philosophy. In looking at the Critique of Judgement from a political perspective, I shall refer not to paragraph 40 but to the Kantian discussion of pure aesthetic judgement. In my opinion, one can understand Kant’s remarks on aesthetic judgement, and (...)

  • The moral authority of transnational corporate codes.William C. Frederick - 1991 - Journal of Business Ethics 10 (3):165 - 177.
Ethical guidelines for multinational corporations are included in several international accords adopted during the past four decades. These guidelines attempt to influence the practices of multinational enterprises in such areas as employment relations, consumer protection, environmental pollution, political participation, and basic human rights. Their moral authority rests upon the competing principles of national sovereignty, social equity, market integrity, and human rights. Both deontological principles and experience-based value systems undergird and justify the primacy of human rights as the fundamental moral authority (...)

  • The aesthetic stance - on the conditions and consequences of becoming a beholder.Maria Brincker - 2015 - In Alfonsina Scarinzi (ed.), Aesthetics and the Embodied Mind: Beyond Art Theory and the Cartesian Mind-Body Dichotomy. Springer. pp. 117-138.
What does it mean to be an aesthetic beholder? Is it different than simply being a perceiver? Most theories of aesthetic perception focus on 1) features of the perceived object and its presentation or 2) on psychological evaluative or emotional responses and intentions of perceiver and artist. In this chapter I propose that we need to look at the process of engaged perception itself, and further that this temporal process of be- coming a beholder must be understood in its embodied, (...)

  • Phenomenological ontology of breathing : the phenomenologico-ontological interpretation of the barbaric conviction of we breathe air and a new philosophical principle of Silence of Breath, Abyss of Air.Petri Berndtson - 2018 - Dissertation, University of Jyväskylä
The general topic of my philosophical dissertation is phenomenological ontology of breathing. I do not investigate the phenomenon of breathing as a natural scientific problem, but as a philosophical question. Within our tradition, breathing has been normally understood as a mechanistic-materialistic physiological life-sustaining process of gas exchange and cellular respiration which does not really seem to have any essential connection to human being’s spiritual, mental or philosophical capacities. On the contrary to this natural scientific view, I argue that breathing can (...)

Bu çalışmanın amacı birlikte yaşamaya yönelik değerlerlerin Müslüman ve Hristiyanlar arasında gerçekleşme imkanının belirlenmesidir.
