Reconnecting through local food initiatives? Purpose, practice and conceptions of ‘value’.Cayla Albrecht & John Smithers - 2018 - Agriculture and Human Values 35 (1):67-81.
Reconnection between producers and consumers is often presented as an integral part of the local food narrative. However, questions can arise as to whether local food producers and their food purchasers align in mindset and the value proposition that underpins their involvement. This paper draws on interview data collected from producers and consumers participating in direct-sell meat operations to explore so-called value propositions between these two actors in local food initiatives in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. We suggest that because producers and (...)

Business Ethics Journal Rankings as Perceived by Business Ethics Scholars.Chad Albrecht, Jeffery A. Thompson, Jeffrey L. Hoopes & Pablo Rodrigo - 2010 - Journal of Business Ethics 95 (2):227-237.
We present the findings of a worldwide survey that was administered to business ethic scholars to better understand journal quality within the business ethics academic community. Based upon the data from the survey, we provide a ranking of the top 10 business ethics journals. We then provide a comparison of business ethics journals to other mainstream management journals in terms of journal quality. The results of the study suggest that, within the business ethics academic community, many scholars prefer to publish (...)

The Role of Power in Financial Statement Fraud Schemes.Chad Albrecht, Daniel Holland, Ricardo Malagueño, Simon Dolan & Shay Tzafrir - 2015 - Journal of Business Ethics 131 (4):803-813.
In this paper, we investigate a large-scale financial statement fraud to better understand the process by which individuals are recruited to participate in financial statement fraud schemes. The case reveals that perpetrators often use power to recruit others to participate in fraudulent acts. To illustrate how power is used, we propose a model, based upon the classical French and Raven taxonomy of power, that explains how one individual influences another individual to participate in financial statement fraud. We also provide propositions (...)

It seems misleading to regard Georg Simmel as one of the founders of modern cultural studies. Instead, it is argued that Simmel's cultural sociology remained oriented to 19th century's culture. In this sense the article reconstructs his theory of individual and collective cultivation as standing in contrast to currently dominating cultural concepts based on egalitarianism.

An Analysis of St. Thomas Aquinas' Expositio of the De Trinitate of Boethius. [REVIEW]Christopher Albrecht - 1994 - Review of Metaphysics 48 (1):138-139.
This is a useful little work, the first comprehensive analysis of Thomas' Expositio to be based on the modern critical edition of the Latin text. Decently organized and frequently insightful, it should appeal to a wide range of Thomist philosophers and scholars and serve to reacquaint us with the rich and multithematic character of this early work of the saint. The core of Hall's study involves an integration of three central thematics in twentieth-century Thomistic studies. The human agent intellect is (...)

A Commentary on Aristotle’s Metaphysics or “A Most Ample Index to the Metaphysics of Aristotle.”. [REVIEW]Christopher J. Albrecht - 2006 - Review of Metaphysics 59 (4):904-906.
Noted Suarez scholar John P. Doyle has provided us here with another fine translation and annotation, the seventh Suarez volume in Marquette’s Medieval Philosophical Texts in Translation. It should be noted that this is not a commentary in the sense of a paraphrase or an exposition “by way of comment,” but an exposition “by way of question”. In this mode, the examination of a text gives rise to relevant philosophical questions, which are systematically asked, arranged, and answered. Commentary on the (...)

    Metaphysics. [REVIEW]Christopher Albrecht - 1993 - Review of Metaphysics 47 (2):372-374.
With this work, the second of the Catholic Thought from Lublin series, the Polish Thomist Albert Krapiec has written a veritable classic, a work destined to be ranked with the famous scholastic books of this century. And although broadly speaking, this is a work in the worthy tradition of Garrigou-Lagrange and Gredt, it is distinguished by its lucidity, simplicity, depth, and precision of insight, as also by its obvious assimilation and analysis of recent controversies and doctrines. The net result is (...)

Pluralism in Philosophy: Changing the Subject. [REVIEW]Christopher Albrecht - 2001 - Review of Metaphysics 55 (1):144-144.
This is a significant and original book, the first half of which expounds the following problem. Humans seek to live good lives, trusting in habit and custom as primary guides. However, certain facts arise which disrupt the attempt to realize such lives. These facts might be anything from wars and revolutions to the invention of the pill. When these arise, and custom and habit prove insufficient to deal with them, humans look to trans-habitual “modes of reflection” to provide satisfactory ways (...)
