National Culture and Women Managers: Evidence From Microfinance Institutions Around the World.Godfred Adjapong Afrifa & Ernest Gyapong - 2021 - Business and Society 60 (6):1387-1430.
We investigate the effect of national culture on women manager appointments. We argue that culture influences women manager appointments through their effects on managerial decision-making. Using firm-level data on 2,456 microfinance institutions (MFIs) across 61 countries, we document that fewer women managers are appointed in societies high on individualism and uncertainty avoidance. On the contrary, high power distance societies are positively associated with the appointment of women managers. We demonstrate that a greater number of women nonmanagers reduces (increases) the appointment (...)

(...)

Perceived Nexus Between Non-Invigilated Summative Assessment and Mental Health Difficulties: A Cross Sectional Studies.Amanda Graf, Esther Adama, Ebenezer Afrifa-Yamoah & Kwadwo Adusei-Asante - 2023 - Journal of Academic Ethics 21 (4):609-623.
The COVID-19 pandemic rapidly led to changes in the mode of teaching, learning and assessments in most tertiary institutions worldwide. Notably, non-invigilated summative assessments became predominant. These changes heightened anxiety and depression, especially among individuals with less resilient coping mechanism. We explored the perceptions and experiences of mental health difficulties of students in tertiary education regarding non-invigilated alternative assessments in comparison to invigilated assessments. A pragmatic, mixed method cross sectional design was conducted online via Qualtrics. Thematic analysis of text was (...)

  9. The stigma of genius: Einstein, consciousness and critical education.Joe L. Kincheloe, Shirley R. Steinberg, Edmund Adjapong & Deborah J. Tippins (eds.) - 2021 - New York: Peter Lang.
In The Stigma of Genius: Einstein, Consciousness and Critical Education, we muse over ways in which to be, to become, to recognize uniqueness and different paths to genius. Understanding that there is no prescribed procedure, but only multiple actions, means, measures in which to recognize or teach to genius, we look at Einstein's life and knowledges to connect our pedagogies and students. Today's schools often exemplify an inability to stimulate and encourage students to find passion, goals, and reasons to be (...)
