Tracing Giftedness: An Exploration of Theories, Programmes and Emerging Dilemmas.Anupama Mahajan - 2017 - Tattva - Journal of Philosophy 9 (2):23-32.
In the recent years, the conception of giftedness in children has garnered a lot of attention from educationists and psychologists in India. Children marked as gifted are said to display above average abilities as compared with their peers. In this paper, I attempt to show that despite multiple notions and theories of giftedness, displaying exceptional abilities in mathematics and science seem to be the dominant focus and trend. In support of this claim, I list out the various Gifted and Talented (...)

  6. Violence and Humanity: Or, Vulnerability as Political Subjectivity.Anupama Rao - 2011 - Social Research: An International Quarterly 78 (2):607-632.
This paper is framed around a close reading and discussion of the juridical category of "caste atrocity," a form of postcolonial legislation instituted by the Indian state in 1955 to protect Dalits, or ex-untouchables, from the threat of upper-caste violence. The paper addresses the problematic permeability between humanity and violence assumed by such protective laws, and argues that rather than protecting Dalits from harm, laws to prevent violence have instead succeeded in making caste violence visible, and a new site of (...)

Can Christian Ethics be Saved? Colonialism, Racial Justice and the Task of Decolonising Christian Theology.Selina Stone - 2024 - Studies in Christian Ethics 37 (1):3-18.
Christian ethical practice has historically fallen short, when we consider the histories of European colonial violence from the sixteenth century and the transatlantic slave trade in Africans. Today, Christian ethics can fail to uphold a standard of resistance to contemporary evils, including racial injustice. To what extent can Christian ethics break with this history and be saved? This article considers the ongoing colonial tendencies of Christian ethics and theological education in Britain, before considering the centrality of decolonisation, primarily ‘of the (...)
