Abstrak Pertemuan kebudayaan, salah satunya dalam bentuk masuknya agama baru ke suatu wilayah, memicu dinamika internal dan eksternal pada individu dan masyarakat untuk mencari cara bereksistensi yang paling mengembangkan. Salah satunya adalah adaptasi model interaksi individu dan masyarakat melalui demonisasi. Novel Things Fall Apart karya Chinua Achebe (1959) memperlihatkan demonisasi dalam agama egwugwu dari suku Igbo di Nigeria melalui desakralisasi yang dinarasikan secara mengerikan tetapi kaya dan menarik sebagai penodaan topeng egwugwu. Melalui kajian atas demonisasi dalam Things Fall Apart ditemukan (...) pemahaman mengenai agama sebagai relasi komunikasi metaforik di tingkat real dan surreal. Kajian juga memperlihatkan bahwa agama, melalui demonisasi yang memaksa dilahirkannya kosakata dan narasi baru, menjadi agen perubahan sosial. Meskipun demikian, demonisasi yang mengimplikasikan perubahan sosial tersebut tidak dengan sendirinya menjadi tanda berakhirnya agama, sebab agama juga berperan sebagai fiksi yang memberi arah bagi persaudaraan yang dibentuk oleh umat manusia. Abstract The encounters of cultures, among which is of religions, cultivate the internal and external dynamic of both individual and society in adapting their most edifying existence. The encounters fuel individual and social adaptation through various dimensions and types of interactions, one of which is demonization. Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart (1959) presents this drama of encounters through its fearful yet succulently rich narration of collisions between egwugwu religion of Igbo in Nigeria and Christianity. This paper elucidates the philosophical consequence of such a powerful presentation of the cultural collision within Igbo society in Things Fall Apart in understanding the phenomena of religion in human person and in humanity. First, religion serves the metaphoric communication between the real and the surreal. Second, demonization in religion enhances a social change through the redescription of its own vocabularies and narrative. Finally, religion serves as the fictional vision for the recreated solidarity among human persons. (shrink)

Mit der Person Franz Böckle wird ein rationales Ethikkonzept assoziiert. Für den renommierten Lehrer und Berater war die menschliche Selbstaufgegebenheit so zentral, dass wiederholt zu hören war, in Böckles Moraltheologie besitze der Glaube eine nur marginale Funktion. Die nachgelassenen Schriften Böckles, insbesondere einige der unveröffentlichten, widerlegen diesen Eindruck. Sie zeigen einen in der biblischen Theologie verankerten, ökumenisch offenen Theologen, der die geistesgeschichtlichen Weichenstellungen seiner Zeit theologisch interpretiert. Die Studie stellt die kognitive Genese Böckles vor dem Hintergrund der europäischen Zeitgeschichte dar. (...) Unter den Leitbegriffen Glaube - Ethik - Recht werden Vorträge und Publikationen Böckles zu Themen wie ”staatliche Grundwerte“ oder ”Forschungsfreiheit“ untersucht. Es wird sichtbar, dass die Probe auf das Humane nicht nur das theologische Profil der Ethik Böckles auszeichnet, sondern zugleich dazu beiträgt, die Strukturen von Ethik überhaupt im Gegenwartsdiskurs zu fundieren. In comparison with Lucian, hardly any other author has achieved a similar mastery of the paradox formula of σπουδογέλοιον, the combination of serious moral exhortation with entertainment and delight. These antithetic features made him an appealing point of reference for Renaissance humanists, who not only translated parts of his oeuvre from Greek to Latin, thus casting a particular light on this versatile author and molding his literary identity according to their own tastes, but also inhaled the Lucianic esprit to such (...) an extent that it would frequently resurface in their own writings. This article focuses on Thomas More’s Latin translations of the Greek author and their multifaceted impact on his masterpiece Utopia, ranging from the shaping of the protagonist and the authorial persona to etymological puns, the stylistic devices of irony, parody, and paradox, as well as varying degrees of fictionality that are highly indebted to Lucian. The first volume of the first Ordo of the Amsterdam edition of the Latin texts of Erasmus contains a general introduction, and presents Erasmus’ attack on barbarious Latin, a commentary on Ovidius’ poem Nux , as well as Erasmus’ Latin translations of Euripides’ Hecuba and Iphigenia , declamations of Libanius, and works by Lucianus and Galenus.

La concepción más común de lo utópico es la de aquella entidad social que, por su misma perfección, no puede darse en la realidad. Esa concepción, que se ha impuesto en el pensamiento moderno y contemporáneo, suele aplicarse, asimismo, a la obra de Tomás Moro, Utopia, en la que se suele ver un estado perfecto pero relegado a la geografía fantástica de lo que podría ser pero nunca será, razón por la cual el humanista ha situado su sociedad en una (...) isla imaginaria. Pero esta concepción olvida los elementos auto-irónicos de la obra de Moro que excluyen una lectura que se pudiera basar en la dicotomía perfección ideal/imperfección real. Ensayamos una lectura, por tanto, más “hermenéutica” de la obra del escritor inglés. (shrink)
